Midnight Sun
03:15
|
|
||
On the rock beach, down by the shore
I’ll be seventeen again
Like the reach of the summer before
Life will never end
When I’m used to the place I’m in
I think of things now overdue
But in the warm midnight sun as it breaks through
All will be renewed
In the cave of my recurring dreams
Where the whispers are heard
Like better days filmed on old cellphone screens
Life will be preserved
When I’m home I always recall
How the end waits for me
But in the bright midnight sun as it breaks free
I’ll live endlessly

Every Other Conversation
03:15

I know that you didn’t want it to show
But when nobody came to your aid
You felt betrayed
Clearly it’s been anything but easy
When I suddenly get out of hand
I understand
But I’m not quite sure what you mean
Telling me I’ve released the guillotine
When you’re the one
Talking up a storm and then some
Hold on you’ve been reading my mind all wrong
When you felt that you were so unfair
I didn’t care
Maybe it was when you thought you saw through me
That you filled up with regret
Yeah, that I’d get
But I just don’t know how it’s brave
Asking me to unleash a tidal wave
When you’re no fun
Looking for a reason to run
So now we’ve locked our minds
And there’s a fortress that our hearts hide behind
If we learn how to let them go
We’d act like we don’t know
But it’s alright, upon our common ground we stand and fight
And on the subject of sympathy
I think we’d both agree
‘Cause what’s the point putting up a wall
When each opinion takes the form of a wrecking ball?
When you’re the one talking up a storm and then some
And I’m no fun, looking for a reason to run
It can’t be done
It’s every other conversation

Race To A Red Light
03:28
|
|
||
It’s a race to a red light and we jumped the starting gun
I get ahead of myself, you break into a run
It’s a song for the midnight and we’re singing to the sun
But the favour of dawn, so it seems, like a race to a red light, can’t be won
Is it all that we know? Or all that we choose to understand
Holding us back from the things we want?
Is it going to last? Do you think that it’s moving way too fast?
‘Cause I feel as if I have grown numb
It’s a race to a red light and we jumped the starting gun
I get ahead of myself, you break into a run
It’s a road so infinite and we’ve only just begun
Maybe we’re fooling ourselves, like a race to a red light,
It’s never done
We carried on through the night
Under makeshift candlelight that spread like the stars in a lesser way
You looked at me, told me of all that we could be
Once we see the winning side no one does
But we’ll never cross that finish line because
It’s a race to a red light and we jumped the starting gun
I get ahead of myself, you break into a run
It’s a song for the midnight and we’re singing to the sun
But the favour of dawn, so it seems, like a race to a red light,
Can’t be won
Like a road so infinite it’s never done
It’s a race to a red light

Not A Moment Too Soon
03:47

I saw a ghost. It woke me up from a daydream
My body froze, my spirit melted away
Is there a time when I’ll know what to do?
When will I find out where I’m going to?
The ghost whispered as it disappeared: not a moment too soon
I heard a voice. It broke me out of a deep sleep
My heart rejoiced, my mind was less than enthused
Maybe I’ll leave all my plans up to fate
Forego the changes I’d anticipate
The voice said: what if they come true just a little too late?
Everlasting array, never-ending display of love and affection
There’s nothing I can do, there’s nothing that I have to do
Non-existent complaints, over-persistent restraints above all connection
There’s nowhere I’m going to, there’s nowhere that I have to go
I found a path. It led me out of a nightmare
My eyes looked back, my soul just stared straight ahead
Yet sometimes I find myself bracing for doom
Caught in the feeling that no one’s immune
And no path will lead me to believe that the May flowers will bloom
But they always seem to come around not a moment too soon

Daylight Moon

Why do we keep all these secrets when the first thing we teach children is that they don’t have to be afraid?
Well it’s no wonder so many of us have trouble believing this world we’ve made
I’m just a man with a temper. I won’t pretend to have an answer, but I’m not gonna turn away
